Customer Quality Control Operator

CCL Design is a leading global supplier of product and identification solutions. At CCL Design we manufacture and design branding components, security products, informational and intelligent labelling products for high growth sectors of the global electronics market.

We now have a vacancy for a Customer Quality Control Operator reporting directly to the Quality Manager.


The purpose of this position will be to:

  • Carry out Customer AQL (Acceptable Quality Level) Inspection for critical parts as an integral part of the quality control process.
  • Work with production and logistics teams to ensure on time delivery to customer.
  • Support process auditing.
  • Data entry on various databases.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Inspect sample parts to Inspection Criteria, following AQL sampling plan.
  • Use numeracy skills to confirm yield data and label count accuracy.
  • Data entry, whilst completing customer quality reports.
  • Maintain and assist in continual feedback loop in relation to product failure.
  • Escalate issues to Quality / Production personnel as appropriate.
  • Adherence to work instructions and job documentation at all times.
  • Maintain good housekeeping to a 5S standard.
  • Identify workload priorities to ensure no customer shipments delayed.
  • Develop best practices and methods for inspection.
  • Understand and fully adhere to CCL’s Quality Policy.

Authority and responsibility:


CQC operators have the authority to directly stop any process which could result in non-confirming product.

CQC operators have the responsibility to highlight any areas of concern within or out with their own environment regarding non-conforming product.


Qualifications, experience and skills:


Essential:

  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Numeracy (minimum SQA Nat 4 level or equivalent).
  • Strong communication skills (including written and verbal English language).
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word.
  • Good teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Customer focused skills.

Useful

  • Previous experience in an Inspection role.
  • Technical background in printing.
  • Understanding of quality systems / KPIs.
  • Experience of continuous improvement.
  • Knowledge of problem solving techniques/quality tools.
  • Auditing skills.

Hours of Work: The role is shift based operating from 6:30 to 22:50 on an alternate early shift / back shift pattern. Flexibility will be required to modify this during periods of high customer demand.


Training in the role will be provided and there will be opportunities to grow within the department.

Artwork, Originations and Planning Team Leader

CCL Design UK is seeking to hire an Artwork, Originations and Planning Team Leader reporting directly to the Production Manager. The purpose of this position is to manage all Originations functions and Technical Planning to ensure (internal) customer needs are met.
The successful candidate will carry out all aspects of people management, manage external supplier relationships and have a full understanding of equipment and tools used.


Main Duties/Responsibilities:


Artwork:

  • Creation of all artwork to meet customer specifications including Customer Drawings, Proofs, SKUs, Internal Drawings, Overlays and any other relevant requirements.
  • Liaise with Customers and Suppliers to optimize customer design requirements for production needs.
  • Skilled and up to date experience in use of all software packages relating to Artwork – Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, ESKO.

Technical Planning:

  • Ensure Manufacturing Packs accompanying the job to Production are fully checked, updated and comply with customer specification, storage/accessible at all times. Manage and implement Change Controls as per process; Release Shop Orders in line with Manufacturing Schedule; advise Scheduling of any gates, tooling etc preventing requested ‘run date’.

Purchasing of Tooling:

  • Selection, purchasing and control of tooling and consumables (plates/screens/tooling – print barrels/tint sleeves, rotary screen) working with different suppliers to achieve consistent and supply to specification.

KPI's:

  • Achieve and control all KPI’s associated with the above processes – Right First Time performance to Press in line with Manufacturing Schedule; 5S; OTD, Artwork related downtime, Tooling Spend.

Q-Pulse:

  • Where relevant to your Department, own, manage and close out any complaints on Suppliers / Customer / Internal (ICAR, CCAR, SCAR) by determining Root Cause, Corrective & Preventative actions.

People Management:

  • All aspects of people management, including Performance Appraisals, Disciplinary, Personal Development Plans, Training Gap Analysis/Training Needs.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Identify and participate in Continuous Improvement Activities.

Health & Safety:

  • Ensure adherence to Safety, Health, Environmental, Quality, Operational and Security policies and procedures.

Qualifications/Skills/Experience:

  • Comprehensive background in Originations and Artwork with extensive knowledge and experience of software packages.
  • Supplier Relations – Experience of building and developing supplier relationships with technical development.
  • Supervisory experience. Can develop a team through displaying leadership
  • Strong communicator
  • Technical background on Production Tooling and equipment (Plates, Anvils, Barrels, Rotary Screen)
  • Understands the importance of detail and has meticulously high Quality Standards
  • Holds delegation skills; has ability to prioritise and take ownership
  • Customer focused. Offering flexibility depending on work volumes
  • Interacts with other departments in professional manner.

Inspector

CCL Design UK is seeking to hire an Inspector, based in East Kilbride in Scotland.

The purpose of this position to operate production equipment within specified work instructions and procedures.

You will report to the Shift Leaders.


Main Duties/Responsibilities:

  • To observe and work within our safety, quality, environmental, 5S and operational policies, processes, procedures and instructions
  • Set-up and operate Inspection machine to produce manufactured parts within the targets set for quality, yield and efficiency, driving towards a zero defects target
  • Conduct cleaning and assist with maintenance to a high standard
  • Maintain excellent housekeeping standards in the work area at all times
  • Assist in the continual improvement of key performance indicators
  • Provide ongoing feedback on equipment, process and part performance that will aid the development of other individual’s skills and capabilities within the team
  • Ensure accurate and timely recording of all required documentation and data entry into our business system
  • Assist flexibly in other areas when required to ensure Production targets are met

Qualifications/Skills/Experience:

  • Previous experience in a high volume Manufacturing environment is desired
  • Basic colour theory
  • A record of achieving targets set including quality, waste and efficiency
  • Good attention to detail and naturally follows processes and procedures exactly
  • Able to demonstrate making continuous improvement in similar roles, preferably within a Company considered to be best in class
  • Knowledge of implementing problem solving techniques / quality tools
  • Team player who has a flexible approach within the team

Process Engineer

CCL Design UK is seeking to hire a Process Engineer, based in East Kilbride in Scotland.

The purpose of this position to support the Production Process ensuring equipment capability and process related performance is consistently achieved.

You will report to the Production Manager.


Main Duties/Responsibilities:


Sustaining Equipment & Process Performance:

  • Measure machine equipment for Capability, reliability and repeatability
  • Daily review of Production status with Shift Leaders for all key Product Related Issues. (e.g. Yield, Product Fails, Bottlenecks)
  • Work closely with the maintenance department to ensure all equipment is working correctly and any mechanical issues are reported and resolved
  • Work with operators to ensure process requirements are being applied as defined
  • Review production performance KPIs, escalating any concerns to Shift Leader
  • New Equipment Identification, Selection and Introduction with experience of building supplier relationships and keeping up to date with current industry trends and technology

Continuous Improvement - Drive to simplify and improve processes within the department:

  • Measure and identify ways of improving processes, ensuring changes are implemented effectively
  • Identify bottle necks within the process, due to processing issues, look for ways to resolve and action
  • Ensure all necessary equipment is available, well maintained and in good working order
  • Train and develop the team through the transfer of knowledge
  • Weekly Meetings with Production team to drive CI activity

Qualifications/Skills/Experience:

  • HNC in an Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Printing Industry and Process experience – Flexo, Digital, Screen, Converting
  • Process Capability – working knowledge of statistical process control (for example fingerprinting, CPK trials)
  • Preventative maintenance process knowledge
  • Working knowledge of production trials e.g. DOE
  • Problem solving (e.g. 8D)
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate people to achieve targets
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to challenge performance from other areas
  • Strong data analysis skills utilizing Excel or other relevant tools
  • Understanding of quality systems
  • Contributes to a Continuous Improvement culture
